Steve Saleen, the man behind the legendary supercar Saleen S7, just unveiled his newest creation, the Saleen 1 (or S1 for short). The mid-engined supercar houses an in house 450 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, that’s expected to launch the supercar from 0-60 MPH in 3.5 seconds, thanks to its 2,685 lbs weight. Though the best part of this supercar might be its price: $100,000.

For that price the Saleen 1 will be a supercar for the masses as it is considerably less (about half the cost) than what you can expect to pay for that level of performance. Alternatively, the S1 will be a great performance buy as that price puts it on the same level as the Jaguar F-Type R, the Lotus Evora 400, and the Porsche 911. Those are cars that are nowhere near the claimed power-weight ratio of the S1.

OTHER FAST FACTS:

– QUARTER MILE: 11.3 SECONDS

– 1.2G CORNERING GRIP

– SIX SPEED MANUAL (DUAL CLUTCH MIGHT BECOME AVAILABLE)

– ALUMINUM TUB CONSTRUCTION WITH CARBON FIBER BODY

If you think the S1 looks somewhat familiar it’s because the car was built off the Artega GT designs (which was based off the Lotus Evora), which Saleen Automotive and JSAT has bought the rights for.

If you’re interested in buying one, he’s currently taking pre-orders at $1,000 a pop, for a delivery date of late summer 2018. The initial production will be in the U.S., while later model years being built in China by Jiangsu Saleen Automotive Technologies Group (JSAT), a chinese company that Saleen Automotive is a part of. The S1 might just become the first legitimate supercar to come out of China.
