MCLAREN P15 – THE NEW ULTIMATE SERIES IS TEASED AHEAD OF ITS REVEAL

McLaren has given us a new teaser of its most hardcore, track-ready road car to date, along with confirmation that it will be launched in mid-2018.

The all-new model, codenamed ‘P15’ will be revealed in all its extreme glory on December 10th, and as expected, the new preview shows only the car’s taillight and gives very little away.

What we already know is that McLaren has confirmed that the P15 will be the “ultimate track car” while being fully road-legal. They have also previously stated that it will sacrifice a small amount of daily usability while offering the “most intensive driver experience around a circuit”.

The two-seater track special is thought to be making its full public bow at the Geneva Motor Show in early 2018. Aside from the early teasers released by McLaren, virtually nothing is known about what the new Ultimate Series model will actually look like. According to the Woking-based carmaker, the design will be “brutal” while being the “the purest expression yet” of the company’s ‘form follows function’ design ethos.

To try to give you an idea of what this new Ultimate Series will look like, we have stitched the teaser images together to complete a preview of the back of the car. This shows where the trio of hexagonal tailpipes feature in the rear design, alongside a host of aero bodywork, LED strip taillights and what appears to be carbon fibre struts for a fixed rear wing.

In recent weeks a mysterious 675LT based test-mule has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring and this is thought to be related to the upcoming super-secret P15. The test mule features a host of new bodywork, including massive front air intakes and a huge fixed rear wing. All of which could be an indication of the extreme aero direction that McLaren will follow with the P15.

The new model is expected to be built around McLaren’s Monocage II one-piece carbon fibre tub, which features in the current super-series model, the 720S. This setup will contribute towards making the P15 lighter than its Ultimate Series predecessor the P1.

We would also expect McLaren to outfit the P15 with a more powerful version of the 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo motor found in the 720S. This engine is normally good for 710bhp so expect (and hope for) close to 800bhp at a minimum in track-ready form.

The as yet unnamed car will be revealed on 10th December and DriveTribe will be bringing all the details as it happens.
