ASTON MARTIN

When the Aston Martin Valkyrie was first announced last summer, the automaker and its technical partner, Red Bull, said it would build 25 track-only versions. Today, we get our first look at that car, the Valkyrie AMR Pro, and wow. It sounds like it’ll be the wildest track-day car out there.

With a skilled driver, Aston Martin says the Valkyrie AMR Pro will be able to lap a circuit as quickly as a modern F1 car. That’s thanks to more power and torque from its 6.5-liter Cosworth V12, and lots of weight saving measures.

For the AMR Pro, Aston will remove the road car’s heater and infotainment screens, replace all the glass with polycarbonate, and install carbon-fiber wishbones, lighter suspension uprights, lighter bodywork, and fixed racing seats. Also, the exhaust will be lighter, since it doesn’t have to meet road-car noise regulations.

Aston hasn’t released any Valkyrie AMR Pro specs, but we’ve heard the Valkyrie street carwill produce around 1130 hp and weigh just under 2300 lbs. Just to lend some perspective.

The Valkyrie AMR Pro receives significantly revised aerodynamic components too, all in the aid of increasing downforce. As you can see in the rendering above, there’s a larger rear wing, and Aston says there’s a larger front splitter too. The car’s active aerodynamics will be modified for track usage as well.

The Valkyrie AMR Pro will also run 18-inch front wheels, which allows the fitment of LMP1-spec Michelin tires. The brakes are full carbon units too, just like you’d get on an F1 car.

Aston says that this car will offer a top speed of over 250 mph, cornering grip exceeding 3.3g, and 3.5g of maximum braking force. Adrian Newey, the chief technical officer at Red Bull F1 and the brains behind the Valkyrie, says the AMR Pro “offers a level of track performance significantly beyond any previous two seat closed roof car.” It’s hard not to believe him.

Pricing for this car hasn’t been announced yet, but it doesn’t matter: All 25 have been sold, with deliveries set for 2020.
